This fancy little blossom is on a male Red Maple (I think). The blossoms on female Red Maples are not as showy and not loaded with pollen like this one.

no, this is my usual stomping ground. I don’t know why I never noticed them before –the red osier dogwood you mean?–, especially since they’ll probably have blossoms. Maybe because we’re having such a slow spring, I’m not distracted by actual wildflowers and have more brainpower to look at bark.
